The last steel truss of this Science Hall project, which is 22 meters long and weighs 48 tons, was accurately positioned and docked, marking the successful completion of the structural topping of the overall steel structure of the project.
The upper steel structure of Science Hall is mainly composed of steel columns, steel beams, steel trusses, steel supports, compression steel plates, and the nodes are all welded and bolted. The steel structure has a large volume, among which there are many types of steel trusses, steel supports, and other complex structures (such as large-span trusses, floor trusses, and spanning trusses, etc.), with large numbers, and the structure of the components and nodes is complicated.
Functional Design
The Zhangjiang Science Hall lives up to its name as a hall by comprising the main venue, multi-functional halls, conference rooms, exhibition displays, VIP and MIP (Most Important Person) lounges, a business center, a café, a rooftop garden and an underground garage.
The entrance plaza to the south of the synagogue building connects to the city, and through the elevated plaza, leads directly to the river, creating a walkway along the river. The west side of the elevated plaza is the entrance to the main venue, set under a large glass light roof, and the east entrance is also the entrance to the multi-purpose hall, echoing the east and west, with a clear distinction between primary and secondary. There are independent entrances and exits on the plaza, as well as special VIP and MIP entrances.
The project is positioned as a place for international science and technology forums, exchanges, meetings and exhibitions, forming a landmark building integrating international conferences and scientific innovation exhibitions. The design concept is based on the elements of water, earth, sunshine and wind, reflecting the continuous rise of scientific and technological knowledge through the spiral building form.
The total construction area of the project is about 116,000 square meters, with a building height of 50 meters, and the main function consists of 6,000 square meters of exhibition halls, 4,000 square meters of banquet halls, and 16 large, medium and small conference rooms of different scales.
The building design adopts an atmospheric and simple architectural vocabulary. The façade of the upper building is composed of triangular ceramic panels, and the color of the entire façade changes from dark at the lower part of the building to light at the higher part of the building. The polygonal glass windows are dotted among the ceramic panels, which bring natural light to the interior and outdoor scenery, and produce rich spatial visual effects through the change of materials and colors of the façade. The ground floor of the building is enclosed by a transparent glass curtain wall, which contrasts with the upper building volume and enhances the lightness of the building as it swings upward.
